EX-SISTERE

2026 · Self-portraits, photography · Ongoing series

To exist is not merely to be alive.

The word comes from the Latin ex-sistere, “to place oneself outside”, “to step out of oneself”. In the Greek philosophical tradition, human life is also understood as a movement of transcendence. A person is not sealed within themselves, but fulfils their existence by opening to the other, to truth and to the world.

To exist, then, is more than to remain; it is to leave one's own centre. It is to stop living only for oneself and to discover that fullness happens in the encounter, in relationship, and in the capacity to transcend one's own limits.
